Postal Worker Accused of Trashing Mail
A Sacramento-area postal worker is accused of throwing letters in the trash instead of people’s mailboxes.
“Both my mother and my brother saw the mailman pull up to the trash can, and throw all the mail into the trash can. Full bucket; commercial, checks, everything,” said Habib Mojadedi, who lives near Meadowview and Freeport Boulevard.
The police were called, and they found mail addressed to places all over the city in the garbage.
“People’s social security checks. People’s electric bills are in there,” Mojadedi told FOX40. “What are they going to do about this? Because our bills are going to be cut off over here. People are waiting for their checks.”
Mojadedi and his brother were able to fish some of their mail out of the trash.
“We had an employee dump some mail in a dumpster,” said Ralph Petty, who works in customer relations at the Sacramento Post Office. “We don’t know why the employee did this. We are certainly going to investigate this.”
The employee will be placed on leave, according to Petty while they investigate.
The person could face serious charges for failing to deliver the letters.
