The Panther Fire in Tehama County is only 10 percent contained and has burned about 7,000 acres, according to Cal Fire.
The fire started just after 9 a.m. Thursday, about 33 miles to the northeast of Chico.
Windy conditions and dry terrain have fueled the blaze, but no structures are threatened right now.
Aside from the wind, Cal Fire says their crews have to deal with rugged terrain.
