With his wife in labor, a husband says it was a comedy of errors that led him to deliver his son at a Sam’s Club.
Fritz Rosales’ wife started having contractions Friday night, and called him to get her to the hospital. Fritz was ready to go, but his car was nearly out of gas. When he asked his wife to sit tight, he had no idea it would take him so long.
First, he was stopped by a slow-moving train with dozens of cars. Just as it cleared and Fritz was ready to head home, another long train came the other way, stopping him.
By the time he got to his wife, she was close to delivering and Fritz headed up Highway 99 for Sutter Memorial Hospital.
The baby just couldn’t wait, and started crowning as the car neared Calvine Road. Fritz found the well-lit parking lot of Sam’s Club on Power Inn Road and called 9-1-1 as he climbed into the passenger seat to help his wife.
Just as Fritz and his wife delivered a baby boy around midnight, an ambulance arrived.
The baby, named Alexandre, is in the NICU for observation.
