Leila Fowler Investigation Continues

Leila Fowler

Authorities have made an arrest in the murder of 8-year-old Leila Fowler.

The girl’s 12-year-old brother has been arrested. As reported at the time news of the murder broke two weeks ago, the boy was in the home at the time of the incident.

He was arrested at 5:10 p.m. Saturday at the Valley Springs substation on a charge of homicide, Calaveras County Sheriff Gary Kuntz said at the press conference.

“Citizens of Calaveras County can sleep a little better tonight,” Kuntz also said.

No motive or any further details about the case were given at the press conference. Authorities noted that the investigation is still ongoing, with more than 2,000 man-hours put into the case.

Over the past week, investigators have continued their search for evidence in two ponds near the Folwer home.

Last week, a neighbor who originally reported seeing a man run from the Fowler home at the time of the murder recanted his story, investigators said.

Fowler’s family held a private memorial service for Leila on Tuesday.

California law only allows children as young as 14 to be tried as an adult. If the 12-year-old is convicted, he could expect to be released by the time he is 25.

As a retired police officer i knew from day one and gut feeling that the brother did it out of rage.

So sad it took detectives so long to break the kid down.

    No major surprises here.

I think everyone had the answer to this one from the git go.

From the pictures I've seen of little leila, I bet she was a handful. I can imagine here aggravating the hell out of big brother to the point where he let his impulses get control. A scenario that takes place a thousand times a day.

What a shame. It would have been so much fun watching that little one grow.

The enormity of this tragedy! My heart bleeds for these parents.

I suspected the brother from the very beginning. I’m glad the police figured it out and found the evidence they needed. So sad. Now this family will be grieving over 2 children lost.

Sad to hear this but something just didn't seem right. I just knew that the brother had done it.

To the naysayers that said I was deluded and very wrong and preferred to believe the "racist" description the boy gave at the beginning, I say I TOLD YOU SO!!! I knew from the beginning it was the brother, his explaination never rang true to me!!!

He's old enough to be a killer, he's old enough to serve LIFE in prison, or death. What a sicko.

Seriously? That is also what everyone said about young micheal crowe when the idiot cops couldn't do there job arrested him for his little sisters murder.everyone including media bought the story.Later it was proven a homeless man killed his sister just as he claimed. So don't jump to conclusions here. Some police settle for the closest target.because they haven't got the answers. Before you get all uptight.I too have many Law Enforcement Officers in my family.they do not believe the boy did it.We should wait and see many people have been unjustly accused before.Cops don't always get it right. If he did do it.God will punish him.

  • angelwings1967

Hope you all never get unjustly accused. You haven't seen any evidence.State of our world Morons….don't judge lest ye be judged. You don't know anything its theory and conjecture.Thank god none of you are in charge in our courts

The brother and his older sister rode my bus, even went to my bus stop. I never would have thought he’d do something like this, he was always smiling. Smiling, like a dummy though, and like a stoner. He was always a very strange kid, he wasn’t all there…. Still very shocking news. Can’t imagine what the family has gone through.

  • miss_vicky

Nothing added up from the begining, and there were so many missing pieces…I believed he did it from the start…right down to the description of the so called suspect seemed false and unbelievable. And angelwings, people cant help what they feel, you cant be made at them for that, haven't you ever heard that your first thought is usually the right thought?

Children today are parked in front of the TV or playing violent video games! Both are the worst babysitters in the world! Parents are lazy today. Children as young as 1 year are watching cartoons, some of which are violent in nature. This was a terrible outcome. RIP little angel.
