Awareness Program Lets You Text a Baby to Your Friends
Your cellphone: so sweet, so innocent…so needy!
With one in three girls becoming pregnant at some point by age 20, DoSomething.org wanted to start a conversation, by knocking up teenagers cellphones. Seriously.
Here’s how it works, you text “BABY” to 38383 and if your friend or child says yes, a helpless little infant is delivered right to their texting thumbs.
“It wakes you up at 6:30 in the morning to tell you that it’s awake and you need to be, too. It tells you when it’s hungry, when it needs to be changed, when it’s tired or crying when it doesn’t know how to tell you what it wants…it simulates that situation,” says Alyssa Ruderman of DoSomething.org.
The text message “baby” is ready to disrupt teenage dreams and send them firmly to the reality of parenthood.
“If you tell them that tomorrow they’re not going to be able to go to the movies or they might not be able to fit into their homecoming dress, that really resonates and everything sort of stops,” Ruderman said.
