The mother of a man who died while in Sacramento Police custody says she spoke with her son every week, during an exclusive interview with FOX40.
Friday night, John Torretti died after a struggle with officers outside a Metro PCS store along Folsom Boulevard.
According to Sacramento Police, they found 42-year-old Torretti inside the store refusing to come out. After a struggle, he came out and overpowered one of the officers. Pepper spray and a baton were used on Torreti.
After getting him into the cop car, he became unresponsive and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His mother, who talked to FOX40 Monday, said she had not spoken with police and was only contacted by the Sacramento County Coroner who told her that her son was dead.
She said her son was loved, and she spoke with him often, even though she had not seen him in a year or two.
She also told FOX40 Torretti sustained a head injury when he was a teenager and had some issues after that. However, since he was an adult, she could not force him to be tested by a doctor for possible mental or brain issues.
