A new 30-second Cheerios ad, featuring an biracial family, has ignited a backlash that has forced the company to disable comments on YouTube.
The commercial, posted online Tuesday, has had hundreds of thousands of views. With those views came a flood of racist comments and a less-than-civil discourse that YouTube comments are sometimes known for.
Cheerios defended the ad in a statement sent to Gawker, saying, “Consumers have responded positively to our new Cheerios ad. At Cheerios, we know there are many kinds of families and we celebrate them all.”
