MARYSVILLE –

A Yuba County man jumped out of his car to escape two hitchhikers who were demanding at knifepoint that he drive them to Sacramento, according to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver picked up the hitchhikers, a man and woman, in Marysville early Saturday morning where they originally requested a short ride to Olivehurst, the sheriff’s department said.

After the driver bailed out of the car, the hitchhikers reportedly drove away.  The car was found abandoned in a Nicolaus walnut orchard several hours later.  As of late Monday, the two were still at large.
