FOLSOM—

Firefighters were able to contain a grass fire burning off of Highway 50 before it did any major damage, officials say.

One shed and the corner of a home along Winterfield Drive were damaged due to the fire, but officials credit the ample amount of defensible space around the neighborhood with helping firefighting efforts.

About 100 firefighters from across the area helped fight the fire, which grew to about 163 acres.

An official at the scene said that the fire may have been sparked from Highway 50. Investigators are still at the scene.

My husband and I were leaving Folsom after having lunch. We could easily see the smoke from the parking lot on E. Bidwell. We went about one block, could tell it was on the other side of a hill. We turned around to go home. The smoke was real obvious by then. Glad to know the fire is out.
