EL DORADO COUNTY—
Authorities say that a 6-year-old boy was found dead at Jenkinson Lake late Sunday afternoon.
The boy was last seen playing with his sister in the water near the Bumpy Meadows picnic area around 4 p.m.
El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies, along with US Forest Rangers, a US Forest Service canine unit, fire crews and a California Highway Patrol helicopter showed up to try and find the boy after he was reported missing.
Around 5:20 p.m., the boy was found about 10 feet from the shore. Responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
The boy has been identified as Trip Demetri from Latrobe, according to a press release sent out Monday. He is said have been visiting the lake with his father and sister.
Jenkinson Lake is located in the Sly Park Recreation Area, about six and half miles southeast of Pollock Pines.
