Cleaners at a Live Oak home Monday uncovered an unsettling sight – human remains.
The workers showed up at the Archer Avenue and L Street home and soon uncovered a bone in the backyard of the rental home.
Apparently, the bone was a part of some sort of shallow grave. The workers then called law enforcement.
Authorities soon found that the bone is that of a human, but they do not know if it was a man or a woman – or what age the person was. The bone had been there for some time.
Chico State’s Anthropology Department has been called in to help cops excavate the site and see if there are any more bones buried in the area. A search warrant has been issued to look through the inside and outside of the house.
A DNA test on the bones is planned. A preliminary search of missing persons has not found a match at this time, authorities note.
Deputies from the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department noted that, after searching Tuesday, they are satisfied that there are no other bones in the backyard. However, there might be something inside the house of interest to the investigation.
Detectives are will be continuing their investigation into the case.
