FOX40 Viewers Buy Deaf Man a Bike After Thief Took His

NORTH HIGHLANDS–

The sights and sounds of riding a bike are what cyclists rely on to get around.

But for Troy Gellis, he only has his sight. His tricycle was quite fitting for him – until it was stolen sometime over the weekend.

Gellis, who is 27 and deaf, was heartbroken.

After our story aired on Monday, dozens of viewers called and e-mailed the FOX40 newsroom asking if they could help.

But one viewer, Levi Yano of Auburn, wanted to buy Gellis a new bike.

“Until I found it was $600 new, I can’t afford that,” Yano said.

FOX40 put several calls in to local bike shops, until we found Duke Jay with Atown Bikes in Auburn.

Together, Yano and Jay split the cost of a used trike and delivered it to the Gellis home in North Highlands.

“This is truly amazing,” his mother Tammy said, as a tear fell from her eye.

When FOX40 gave Gellis his new bike, he took one look at it and said “wow.”
