Seven people were sent to the hospital late Friday afternoon after a three car collision in South Sacramento, CHP says.

The crash happened around 5:15 p.m. along Calvine Road, just east of Cliffcrest Drive.

According to a release from California Highway Patrol, a Hyundai Elantra was driving west along Calvine when for some reason it crossed over the center median and clipped a Honda CRV heading east.

The Hyundai then hit a Honda Pilot that was right behind the CRV, sending the Hyundai out of control and into a tree. The right rear passenger door took the brunt of the impact against the tree, CHP notes.

All six passengers from the Hyundai – including a 30-year-old woman and a child who was in the back seat – were taken to the hospital. The woman suffered major injuries in the crash. CHP also notes that it is unclear if the passengers in the Hyundai were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The only other injury was to the driver of the Pilot. She was taken to the hospital with an injury to her arm.

All cars sustained major damage in the crash.
