The popular Jelly Belly candy factory reached another milestone with visitor number 6 million. There was a bit of suspense when the guest was identified as part of a morning tour group, but was picked out only after the tour finished up.
“They have no idea which one it is,” Retail Operations Vice-president John Jamison told a group of visitors awaiting their tours.
Applause went up when German tourist Stepan Svihla was congratulated.
“We just came to spend a nice day here with the kids and this is what we got,” an excited Svihla told FOX40.
He and his two kids are no stranger to Jelly Bellys, which are distributed in 73 countries.
Svihla won a $200 gift certificate, lunch on the house and assorted other prizes. But he says the memories of the honor will be a part of his trip to the United States.
“The kids are happy, it’s a great experience for the kids, great experience for me … it’s sort of like a sweet lottery,” beamed Svihla.
The factory began counting visitors in the early 90’s when the demand for tours of the factory became greater. The visitors center now handles nearly half a million visitors from all over the world each year.
The 7 millionth visitor is expected to arrive in the early part of 2016.
