SOUTH LAKE TAHOE—
A man – who officers later found was a wanted parolee – ran from officers after he was confronted for skinning a raccoon Monday afternoon.
Officers showed up to an open lot between the Sno-Flake Drive-In and the Tahoe Daily Tribune newspaper building at the corner of Modesto and Harrison avenues around 2:30 p.m.
At the scene, they found a man with bloody hands and a raccoon that was nearly completely skinned.
The officers started to talk to the man, but he soon bolted.
More officers showed up to try and catch the man, who ran across all five lanes of Highway 50 and into St. Theresa’s School a few blocks down the road from where he was skinning the raccoon.
Officers were able to surround him at the baseball fields of South Tahoe Middle School. The man laid down in the field and officers were able to take him into custody.
No knife was ever found on the man or after a search of the area.
Even though the man refused to identify himself, investigators were able to identify him as 37-year-old Kevin Burroughs – a parolee at large and a registered sex offender.
Burroughs now faces numerous charges, including possession a creature unlawfully taken, resisting arrest, failing to register as a sex offender, a sex offender trespassing on school grounds and being a parolee at large.
South Lake Tahoe Police say the remains of the raccoon were destroyed by Tahoe Wildlife Care.
