A scam that looks to have originated in the Bay Area has made its way to the valley, Roseville Police say.
According to a release from the police department, burglars posing as animal control officers hit at least two Roseville neighborhoods on Monday.
The burglars would knock on doors and tell the homeowners that they were checking for poisonous snakes. In at least one incident late Monday afternoon, the fake officer led residents to the backyard of the home, only for the residents to find that their home had been burglarized by an unseen accomplice.
In another incident, the fake officer only got as far as the front door, as the homeowner had heard about the scam after earlier reports from the Bay Area.
Fremont Police have released surveillance footage of the suspect posing as an animal control officer. You can find the picture below.
Anyone who believes they may have been scammed, or who knows who the scammer may be, is asked to call Roseville Police.
