WASHINGTON D.C. (CNN) —

President Barack Obama intends to nominate Janet Yellen as chairwoman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, a White House official said Tuesday. Yellen, a former professor, is now vice chairwoman of that board. Obama will make the announcement on Wednesday and will be joined by Yellen and current Chairman Ben Bernanke.
