Authorities are saying that the body found by hunters in the Stanislaus National Forest is that of Korey Kaufman, a man missing since 2012.
Hunters came across the body back on Aug. 19 and alerted the Stanislaus Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies recovered the body and an autopsy later revealed that the body was that of a white man who was in his early to mid-twenties. It was only due to other evidence found at the scene that authorities came to the conclusion that the body is that of Kaufman.
Kaufman had been reported missing back in April 2012. Due to the surrounding circumstances, authorities are calling the death suspicious.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Cory Brown of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Homicide Unit at (209) 567-4485.
