Early morning drivers passing through Elk Grove on Highway 99 will need to find a way around, as the freeway will be closed to all but construction crews.
Work on a new Elk Grove Creek Trail pedestrian and bicycle bridge is necessitating the closures.
The closures (which will only affect the part of the freeway between Elk Grove and Laguna Boulevards) will stretch until Thursday. A full breakdown is as follows:
-Oct. 14 and 15: Southbound Highway 99 will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m.
-Oct. 16 and 17: Northbound Highway 99 will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m.
Detours will be clearly marked, according to City of Elk Grove officials.
The bridge is expected to be fully completed by spring 2014.
