There’s nothing like a good sports rivalry, but administrators suspect a group of students from both Del Oro and Granite Bay high schools escalated the cross-town rivalry to vandalism this week.

”Del Oro came to Granite Bay and painted black and gold on our bear out front,” explained Granite Bay Senior Jackson Rodriguez. “So a couple of students who are unknown went to Del Oro and started spray painting on their campus.”

But there’s a difference; the paint on the Granite Bay Grizzly Bear washed away. The damage at Del Oro was considerably more severe.

“I know we did something to their bear,” explained Del Oro Junior Jacob Hawks.  “But that was washable paint.  Then they came out here and did that.  It hasn’t gone away yet.”

“With the permanent paint it’s taking it way to far,” exclaimed Lisa Robinson, a Del Oro Mom.

Students at both schools were told if those responsible are found, they will have to pay for the cleanup.  Also, depending on the outcome of the investigation by the schools, police prosecution is possible.

Rivalry week concludes with the Varsity football game between the two schools Friday night at 7 in Loomis.
