The Cal Expo Board of Directors decided to move forward on a proposal to build a soccer stadium on the California State Fair grounds Thursday.

A final agreement will be voted on Dec. 13.

According to the Sacramento Republic FC, Ovations Food Service would build and own the facility. The 8,000-seat stadium, described as a multi-use facility with a full pitch for soccer, is said to be only temporary. Sac Republic FC’s first season would be held there, which is set to begin in March 2014.

The stadium would be paid for through private funding, Sac Republic said.

The club plans on eventually building a more permanent facility
