Thanksgiving turkeys that were mean to feed thousands of needy people in Fairfield have been stolen, the Mission Solano homeless shelter said.
Staff showed up to their community outreach shelter along Travis Boulevard Monday and found that someone had broken into the freezer and stolen all the birds.
It is unclear the exact number of turkeys that were stolen, but the shelter was just about to collect 900 turkeys to help their annual Thanksgiving food boxes for 4,000 needy people, plus another 150 turkeys for the area’s homeless population.
Mission Solano has been doing its Thanksgiving food box giveaway for the past 15 years. The boxes come with a turkey, plus all the fixings you’d expect with a Thanksgiving dinner.
The giveaway is still scheduled for Nov. 26 at the Community Outreach Center at 740 Travis Boulevard, but the organization must now start from scratch.
You can help the organization by dropping off turkeys at the center or at the Mission Solano Thrift store at 2025 N. Texas Street and the Drive Away Hunger building at 1907 N. Texas Street.
