It has been a year since Irene Burdan’s 19-year-old son Michael was shot and killed in a Del Paso Heights neighborhood, but the wounds of her loss are still fresh.
“He is not here to help no more. He was not only my son, he was my best friend,” said Burdan.
Wednesday, Burdan’s family gathered at the site where Michael was killed in the hope that someone would come forward and bring his killers to justice.
Michael had just graduated high school and was engaged to be married, but on Nov. 20 2012 , while taking strawberries to his brother’s house, the future he had ahead of him came to a tragic end.
Witnesses said three men walked up to Michael as he rode his bike and shot him.
“If he had to he would give the shirt off of his back to anybody. He did not bother anybody,” said Burdan.
With few details and little to go on, police were at a standstill in finding the shooters.
“It has been a year. Everyone says to move on, but there is no way to move on,” said Burdan.
