ELK GROVE-

Four homes were evacuated Wednesday afternoon after an explosion.

Investigators have detained one person, and said the explosion was from a model rocket engine. The explosion is said to have blown out windows in the area, and debris was sent 150 feet.

No one was hurt.

Officials say the engine was part of a college student’s school project that went wrong.

A bomb squad was on the scene to investigate and dispose of other possibly dangerous devices. A hazmat team was also investigating.
