MODESTO—

Police in Modesto have arrested one of the suspects in Monday’s scary home invasion robbery where a woman was forced into a closet as men ransacked her home.

Thanks to fingerprints one of the suspects left behind, a Modesto Police technician was able to identify 22-year-old Steven Mines as one of the suspects.

Tuesday afternoon, officers near Standiford and McHenry Avenues spotted Mines as he was driving. Police tried to pull the car he was driving over, but Mines is said to have hit the gas. Police chased Mines until the intersection of Tully Road and Pelandale Avenue, where he is said to have crashed into another car.

Officers quickly converged on Mines and his passenger and took the two into custody. Inside Mines’ car, officers say they found stolen property – including a stolen handgun.

Mines was later booked on multiple charges, including home invasion robbery, kidnapping, conspiracy and parole violations.

The passenger inside the car with Mines at the time, identified as 21-year-old Amonte Jones, was also arrested and was booked on charges of multiple parole violations.

Modesto Police investigators are still asking anyone with information on the incident to call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636.
