SACRAMENTO-

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday morning that a deputy fired at a woman suspected of driving under the influence.

Investigators say the deputies came across a stranded driver near Kiefer Boulevard and Mayhew Road, and called for a DUI-trained officer to do a field sobriety test.

Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Sergeant Lisa Bowman says the woman began to struggle with the deputy and managed to get control of her car. The driver reportedly hit the deputy with her car as she tried to get away.

The Sheriff’s Department notes that the deputy is O.K.

The deputy chased the woman to a neighborhood along Bramble Trail Way, where she tried to flee on foot, investigators say, but she was detained.
