Mouand Saelee is mourning the loss of her 5-year-old granddaughter, Krista Nichols, who died Sunday in what police are calling an accidental hanging.
“Everybody loved her,” Saelee said. “She very nice to me every day.”
Completely heartbroken over the death, Saelee shared her last conversation with Krista at her house, where she was caring for her granddaughter on Sunday.
“’Ta Ta, do you wanna eat with grandma?’ She said, ‘No, I’m full.’ ”
So grandma left to run an errand at the store.
“I see a lot police here. I asked police, ‘what happened [at] my house?’” she said. “My daughter [told] me Krista [died].”
Saelee points to where it happened, where a plant hanger hung from in the living room ceiling.
“This year very bad for us,” Saelee said.
She’s already lost her brother-in-law, who died just weeks ago, followed by her own mother, then her mother-in-law.
“Two, three months. I cannot stop. I’m crying, I’m always crying. I always thinking about her,” she said.
The girl’s mother spoke briefly with FOX40. Her family says they need help to bury Krista.
