The California Lottery on Friday identified Northern Californian man, Steve Tran, as one of the two winners of last month’s $648 million Mega Millions jackpot — the second largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.
Tran was in San Jose back on December 17 visiting the area, and stopped at Jennifer’s Gift Shop along Tully Road before heading home.
There, Tran bought five Quick Pick tickets. He then put the ticket with a stack of other lottery tickets he had purchased in other towns. Tran is a delivery driver, and picks up tickets during his rounds.
The winning ticket sat in that stack in Tran’s bedroom for weeks as the family went on vacation.
It wasn’t until 3 a.m. Monday that Tran checked his ticket and realized what it was worth.
He will have to share the jackpot with another winner in Georgia, Tran’s share will be just over $320 million.
He told the California Lottery he plans on quitting his job, and taking a long vacation.
