Police say they have no idea why 32-year-old Lynnsey Braun pulled out her gun and fired several rounds, striking and killing a man just taking a ride on a light rail train Thursday night.
The shooting happened just after 10 p.m. at the light rail station on 11th and O Street. Police say the trian had just pulled away from the station when bullets began to fly.
“You had a couple passengers still on board when the officers arrived,” Sacramento Police Lieutenant Norm Leong said. “The operator broadcast the necessary information quickly, stopped the train and got law enforcement here immediately.”
When police arrived, they found a man in his 50’s laying right outside the train with multiple gun shot wounds. Police say Braun was still inside the train, holding the gun.
Leong says the victim was taken to a hospital, but died from his injuries.
Police say surveillance video from inside the train shows the two getting on at different stops.
“They sat near each other and held on what looked like a relatively normal discussion,” Leong said.
Police currently do not have a motive for the shooting.
