A petition effort to put Sacramento’s subsidy for the new arena project to a public vote has been rejected by the city clerk, and the group behind that petition is considering its next move.
Jim Cathcart, the treasurer of Sacramento Taxpayers Opposed to Pork, says his group will be consulting attorneys. STOP will have to act quickly if their measure is to hit the June ballot.
“We are, of course, disappointed, but not tremendously surprised, that the Sacramento City Clerk is refusing to certify the Voter Approval initiative for the June 3rd primary ballot,” Cathcart wrote in a statement to the media.
In a letter to STOP, City Clerk Shirley Concolino said the different versions of the petition submitted by the group were not compliant with the California Elections Code.
STOP maintains that the inconsistencies were “insignificant printing errors.”
