Regardless of how you feel about the Seattle Seahawks, their name is pretty cool compared to others that were suggested before their 1976 debut.

According to a blog post on the team’s website, the name “Seahawks” was picked out of 1,741 different names.

Many of the names suggested ranged from kinda O.K., to questionable, to confusing, to downright awful.

“Aardvarks?” Nah. “Aqua-Ducks?” Nope.

“Bunyan?” Are you being serious? “Clouds?” Yeah, real menacing. “Bay Hawks?” O.K., you’re getting there.

“Diarrheas?” ABSOLUTELY not. What is wrong with you?

“Sun Dodgers?” You’re football players, not vampires.

“Sonics?” Real original. “Daffy Ducks?” You might run into some legal trouble with that one. “Vampires?” Wait, are you actual vampires?

“Pike Street Misfits?” That one just sounds more like a punk band. “Ding Dongs?” Alright, that is enough.

Look, naming things is hard but you chose wisely with “Seahawks.”
