SACRAMENTO-

The FBI announced a regional rewards program Tuesday at Sacramento International Airport as part of a campaign to end laser strikes.

The effort comes after nearly 4,000 pilots were struck last year, often times by a civilian on the ground, shining a laser in to the sky.

“It blinds the pilot temporarily and a large flash of light takes over the cockpit,” CHP officer Dave White told FOX40 Tuesday.

The program will last 60 days, anyone who reports a laser strike could get up to a $10,000 reward.
