Bay Area Murder Suspect Captured Thanks to Arden Security System
Police identified a man, who walked into Arden Fair Mall Friday evening, as 24-year-old Leondre Paige.
He’s listed on a fugitive watch website which reads: “wanted for murder in San Leandro.”
“This is the first time we’ve ever had that it was someone wanted for a murder warrant,” Arden Fair Mall Security Head Steve Reed said.
At gunpoint, Sacramento Police took them into custody. Paige moved into the backseat, after police first contact them.
With their hands raised, the men walk backwards toward the officers, until they were placed in handcuffs.
It all began when their white compact car rolled into the mall parking lot around 5 p.m. Friday.
Mall security vehicles are equipped with sensitive cameras in black boxes that read license plate numbers as they pass parked cars.
“The camera is on the right. It’ll pick up the stolen car that’s parked there. We get an immediate hit. It takes less than a second,” reed said.
Once security is alerted to the stolen car, they contact Sacramento Police.
Investigators soon realized one of the men was wanted for murder.
For now, Paige sits at the Sacramento County Jail on a no-bail felony warrant.
“I do everything I can to let people know not to come here if they’re doing something wrong. But I can’t fix stupid. Sometimes they keep coming here and we’re going to catch them,” Reed said.
