One of Placer County’s most wanted has been captured, with help from the girl at the Lincoln yogurt shop.
“It’s usually very calm here in the Lincoln yogurt shop,” Rikha Unciano said Monday.
It all started with a crash on 193 in Newcastle. Police say David Teitjan probably went off the road because he was drunk or high.
“He got out of there through a couple of good Samaritans helping him out,” said one witness, who did not want to be identified. “And I told him, ‘You can leave, but we’re not going to lie to police for you.'”
The witness told FOX40 Teitjan wasn’t able to get away before police showed-up. So Teitjan hatched another plan- ask the CHP officer for a bathroom break, and then make a run for it.
“Yeah, he did. So we told him no but he could go outside anywhere he liked,” the witness said. “And that’s the last anybody saw him.”
The last anybody saw of him until Unciano.
“There were cops coming and he was pretending like his shoe was untied and stuff. So, there was something weird going on,” Unciano said.
Police had been tipped that Teitjan caught a ride to a shopping plaza in Lincoln but, at first, they couldn’t find him amongst the dozens of stores.
“I was kind of like ‘Hey, there’s someone back here and I don’t know who it is.’ And so I got really scared and so I called (officers) over. And they came in the front, and he ran out the back,” Unciano said.
Police say Teitjen had one more trick up his sleeve. He was hidden in the dumpster behind the yogurt shop. But he didn’t stay hidden for long.
Placer County’s most wanted list says a warrant was issued for Teitjan on Jan. 28 for trying to influence testimony with a bribe.
