A San Francisco snowboarder missing since Monday afternoon has been found alive and well, search crews said Tuesday night.
Abraham Finkelstein had gotten separated from his father while hiking to snowboard through the Castle Peak back country. He reportedly hiked out and was able to call the authorities from Soda Springs.
Finkelstein built himself a shelter to spend the night in the snow, then used his snowboard, which can be broken in two, as snowshoes for his hike out.
The man was taken to the hospital for “minor issues” with exposure to the elements, but is expected to be just fine.
"He used some wits, which is what we were hoping he would do, and managed to keep himself alive." – Sgt. Sam Brown, Nevada County.—
