Sacramento County District Attorney Candidates Attend Faith-Based Forum
Lots of cheers Tuesday at a faith-based forum for candidates in the race for Sacramento District Attorney as all answered a church challenge to convene a faith leader advisory council to help with alternative sentencing.
In turn Anne Marie Schubert, Todd Leras and Maggie Krell responded with “absolutely,” “let’s do it” and “amen” to the idea.
Then there came a shout from the back of the packed sanctuary at Jubilare Evangelistic Ministries.
“Nobody mentioned police shootings. That needs to be questioned today,” shouted Kevin Carter.
He was shushed.
Carter says when he checked with organizers before the forum he was told he couldn’t raise the issue of police violence.
Current D.A. Jan Scully, who’s been in office for 20 years, has been heavily criticized for ignoring cases of police firing on innocent citizens.
“She also used the budget as an excuse not to prosecute or investigate any police shootings. And for that question…and a faith based (group) not to ask that question, I find something disturbing about that,” said Carter, when interviewed about his outburst.
Pastors who organized tonight’s forum did not respond to calls from FOX40 about why police shootings were not addressed.
