A bicyclist was hit head-on by a pickup truck Saturday, and is currently listed as critical but stable.
The Roseville Police Department received a call around 2:30 a.m. about a bicyclist laying in the gutter on southbound Foothills Boulevard between Marcia Way and McAnally Drive. Roseville Police and Roseville Fire responded and found the man face down near his badly damaged bicycle.
A witness told officers that the cyclist was riding northbound in the southbound lane of Foothills Boulevard, then a 2001 Ford pickup hit the biker head-on from the opposite direction. The driver drove away without stopping.
The bicyclist, 24, from Roseville was taken to the hospital, and is in critical condition, but is also listed as stable.
Police contacted the suspected pickup driver at his home in Roseville, and they arrested him on suspicion of the felony hit-and-run and DUI charges. Alan Ryan Cassell, 24, is being held in the Placer County Jail on $50,000 bail.
The collision is being investigated by the Roseville Police Department’s Major Injury Accident Team. Two southbound lanes of Foothills Boulevard were closed until approximately 11 a.m. Saturday morning for the investigation.
