Pleasant Grove High School alum Kyle Larson will race in Sonoma this weekend – and he’s the top NASCAR rookie so far in this year’s Sprint Cup Circuit.
Larson, driver of the No. 42 car, has seven Top 10 finishes in the Sprint Cup, and a pair of Nationwide Series victories under his belt.
“I think I’m more calm behind the wheel,” Larson said of his post-Nationwide Series confidence. He says that experience helped him prepare for the Sprint Cup.
But it hasn’t been all roses for Larson. He’s already had run-ins with NASCAR veterans Tony Stewart and Clint Bowyer.
“Can’t do anything to piss those guys off,” Larson said. “They’re veterans and if you make them mad, they’ll make your life miserable but you gotta race them hard. You can’t be a pushover.”
Larson will make his Sonoma Raceway debut Sunday.
