Seven months after a missing Roseville restaurateur was found dead off the coast of Gualala, the fate of the eatery he left behind is secure.
Thanks to a deal between the Roseville Community Development Corporation and the family of singer Sammy Hagar, Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar and Grill will once again be a fixture on Vernon Street.
The last proprietor, Steve Pease, disappeared last November right before a loan payment was due the CDC.
After his death, the CDC had to foreclose on the site.
Now some old employees are in the running for the returning jobs at a place town advocates say is perfect for this kind of business.
“After a concert or event in the town square, just a short walk and they can patronize very interesting tenants that you really can’t find at the mall. We have a wonderful mall, Fountains, they do a fantastic job. [Sammy's is] a different tenant than what we’re looking for here,” said Chris Robles with the Roseville Community Development Corporation.
While Sammy’s is set to open in the fall, folks on Vernon will be treated to something else new from the CDC as soon as August and right next door.
The Monk’s Cellar will be offering artisan beer and food pairings.
