Police officers told FOX40 they were forced to shoot a man who chased his brother-in-law down the road with a butcher knife in north Sacramento.
Michelle Gigante with the Sacramento Police Department said that man was drinking at a party with his family members at a residence in the 4400 block of Wheatley Circle on Saturday evening. Relatives told police they tried to stop the man from driving a car while intoxicated, and that’s when things got out of hand.
“Well that’s when he went into the house, armed himself with a butcher knife, and then went after his brother-in-law. So that’s where we stand right now. There were two officers and a Sergeant that made contact with the suspect. He was still armed with a knife. They attempted to use the CD, which is is the taser. So when they tried to use that it did not work, so they wound up shooting the suspect, in fear for their safety and in fear for the neighborhood,” said Gigante.
The suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
