Family members say a mother of two was killed in an attempted robbery at a private security company in the 28th Street near Fruitridge Road in south Sacramento Friday morning.
“That’s her office, she has to go there everyday. My older brother called me this morning, told me she got shot,” a fellow employee at Capitol City Security.
A coworker told FOX40 the victim was his older sister, 47-year-old Lan Tran.
“The reason I’m upset is police won’t let me know anything,” the man said.
“She was pronounced dead at the scene,” said Doug Morse with Sacramento Police.
Morse said nearby business owners called police shortly after 9 a.m., saying they found a woman inside the business who appeared to have serious injuries. Morse told FOX40 when officers arrived, they found the the woman dead with an apparent gunshot wound. They are investigating the death as a homicide.
The victim’s brother said he has reason to believe his sister’s death was a robbery turned murder.
“This happened before on the same day. On Friday. On payroll day. On payday,” he said.
“It’s very sad cause people are working to make a living to do things the right way, people don’t deserve that,” said neighbor Janie Gonzalez.
“I know it looks like a residence front but it is a business,” said Morse.
The nondescript building, which has no company logos, is what makes the victim’s brother think the killer was an acquaintance of the family. He said no one else would know his sister kept cash in a small office that looks like a house.
“She kept cash on her to pay employees. It could be people that used to work for us and they know she has cash with her,” he said.
Police are looking for a person of interest. They say he is a black adult male. If you have any information, you’re urged to contact police you can remain anonymous.
