YOLO COUNTY-

A wildfire that grew rapidly over the holiday weekend, appears to be more under control. Cal Fire reports the Monticello Fire, near Lake Berryessa, is 35% contained Monday morning.

The Monticello Fire started Friday evening along Highway 128, at Monticello Dam, on the southeast shore of Lake Berryessa. Campgrounds and homes along Highway 128 were evacuated over the weekend and a shelter was set up.

In their Monday update, Cal Fire says the evacuations were lifted for homes, however the campgrounds will remain closed. Highway 128 in certain parts will also remain closed except for local traffic.

The fire has burned almost 6,500 acres, the cause is still under investigation.

Firefighters say the fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain; crews are battling the flames from the air and the ground.

Although the fire is a third contained, fire officials warn the winds are erratic and could easily push the flames.
