Two young men were involved in a single-car accident in Modesto. The passenger is currently in a hospital, but the driver did not survive the crash.
According to California Highway Patrol, the driver, 21, of Antioch, and the passenger Robert Young, 20, from Oakland, were driving a Saab north on I-5 near Oak Flat Road.
It appeared the driver was driving with a right rear flat tire. The driver allowed the car to turn from the number two lane to the center median. The car rolled several times after rolling into the center median.
As the car was rolling, both the driver and Young were ejected from the car. The driver was thrown into a southbound traffic lane, and Young landed on the right shoulder of I-5 south.
Emergency medical responders pronounced the driver dead at the scene, and the passenger was flown by a helicopter to Memorial Medical Center with major injuries.
