Fast Food Workers, Demonstrators Detained at Sacramento Protest
Several people were removed by police Thursday morning during a demonstration of fast food workers along Broadway near 21st Street in Sacramento.
Officers tell FOX40 they cited and released eight people for “refusal to disperse.”
Dozens of people gathered outside the McDonald’s at the above location. They are pushing for union rights and an increase to the minimum wage.
McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s and employees from other fast food restaurants were expected at the gathering, in addition to the President of Service Employees International Union, religious leaders, and the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment among others.
The group began walking onto Broadway, blocking traffic.
Sacramento Police responded by arresting demonstrators when they sat in the middle of the street.
