APPLEGATE-

Firefighters say the Applegate Fire did not grow a single acre Thursday, thanks to favorable weather conditions.

Cal Fire reported at 6 a.m. that flames had spread 420 acres since it started Wednesday afternoon. That number was the same at 6 p.m.

"Today's activity was very successful," Cal Fire spokesperson Kevin Lucero said. "We were able to get hand line and dozer line almost around the complete perimeter."

Meanwhile, many homeowners are anxious to return home.

"I literally haven't slept," homeowner Mark Werner said. "So, it would be nice to sleep in my own bed tonight."

Werner stayed with family in Sacramento. Evacuation orders won't be lifted until at least Friday morning, according to Cal Fire.

Interstate 80 reopened shortly after 8 p.m., but other roads have remained closed.
