While Sacramento saw only a few sprinkles from Monday's rain clouds, the Sierra foothills received a decent drenching.

During the late afternoon hours, nearly half-an-inch of rain fell on Grass Valley. FOX40 found people running for cover. But they weren't complaining.

"I'm enjoying it," said one local, wearing shorts. "I think it's beautiful. It's been a very long time. I missed it."

The downpour only lasted a few hours, but it did cause some problems. The California Highway Patrol responded to at least three spinouts in the Placer County foothills, a reminder that a first rain always mixes with oil on pavement, making roadways especially slick.

The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies over the Sacramento region during the next couple of days.  Chances of rain return by the end of the week.
