The latest numbers from the Sacramento County Registrar of Voters show Rep. Ami Bera taking a slight lead over republican challenger Doug Ose in the race for California's 7th Congressional District.
Numbers released Wednesday afternoon have Bera with 87,643 votes, or 50.2 percent, and Ose with 86,932 votes, or 49.8 percent.
The difference is just 711 votes.
The District 7 race has been incredibly close since the Nov. 4 general election. Bera held the lead for much of the evening before falling behind Ose. Wednesday was the first time Bera appeared to be ahead since election night.
County election officials estimate another 19,000 ballots have to be counted.
