A man shot a woman and then himself inside a Nordstrom store in Chicago on Friday night, officials said.
The man died, and the woman was critically injured, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.
Chicago police Chief of Detectives John Escalante said the man entered the store and targeted “his girlfriend or ex-girlfriend” on the second floor, Escalante said.
The woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in extremely critical condition, Langford said. The gunman died at the scene.
The store was packed with Black Friday shoppers who panicked and bolted when the gunfire rang out.
“It was a pow and a pow,” shopper Michelle Smith told the Chicago Tribune. “It was a stampede coming down the escalator.”
