SACRAMENTO-

The Cal Expo Board of Directors unanimously approved Sacramento Republic FC’s request to expand seating at Bonney Field from the current 8,000 seats to over 10,000.

According to Republic FC, the final seating capacity will be between 10,500 and 11,500 depending on further evaluation by the company manufacturing the bleachers. Expansion will include new seats, along with the re-configuration of other seats.

“Our partnership with Ovations and Sacramento Republic FC further demonstrates the vitality of Cal Expo as a prominent community asset and keeps with our efforts to further enhance the State fairgrounds,” said Cal Expo CEO Rick Pickering.

Sac Republic FC sold out of season tickets in their inaugural season, and say they have sold more than 7,200 season tickets for the 2015 season.

According to Major League Soccer, the average attendance per MLS game this past season was 19,151. Republic FC averaged 19,292 over their three first three games at Hughes Stadium before moving their games to the much smaller Bonney Field.
