Barbara Holland, 70, was arrested Friday evening, after allegedly stabbing her neighbor at her senior independent living home in Midtown Sacramento.
"There were a lot of police cars here the night this happened, and it was a little bit scary," 92 year-old resident, Mary Budworth said.
Budworth soon found out her friend, 75 year-old Barbara Mariano was stabbed by Holland on the second floor, after a fight broke out. Sacramento Police said Holland walked across the hall to Mariano's room, pulled out her knife and immediately began stabbing, until she fled the scene. Minutes later, Holland was arrested in her own room without incident, for attempted homicide.
Budworth said both women were likable, and could not believe the incident happened in her building, especially considering the safety precautions residents make at the senior home.
"We are instructed to keep our doors locked, and not to let other people in when we come into the building," Budworth said.
Holland is now at Sacramento County Jail. Her booking photo has been withheld by Sacramento Police. She is expected in court on Tuesday afternoon.
"It doesn't look good for her, and I'm sure she didn't plan this or I wouldn't think she would," Budworth said.
Police said patrolmen have come to the senior facility several times in the past for disturbance calls, and called this incident an "ongoing dispute." Mariano suffered severe injuries, but is expected to make a full recovery.
